Beachin' Rivets - Glass Drilling and Rivets
Saturday, March 5th from 3PM to 6PM
Long walks on the beach have yielded pockets full of glass with nowhere to go! Here is a way to make them useful and incorporate them into jewelry. Learn to drill glass and rivet the holes for a great finish. This class will offer hands on experience with a flex shaft and to properly use it. (Note: There are no guarantees made as to the completion of this project due to the sensitivity of glass. Colors and sizes will vary from sample and photos.) Tools available for purchase from instructor.
Skill Level: Confident Beginner/Intermediate
Session: 3 hours
Max Class size: 16 (no one under 18 years of age)
Class fee: $79
Materials Fee (To be invoiced separately): $42
6 beach glass pieces, SS tubing, SS jump rings, 18" chain, drill bit. (If the bit is broken by the student, they are responsible to purchase a replacement.)
Students are asked to bring:
Black Sharpie (fine tip)
Chain Nose Pliers
Super grip gloves (optional)
Magnifying glasses and Ott Light as Needed
Provided by Instructor:
Flex Shaft and Holders
Incidental supplies, such lubricant, drilling boards and dishes.
Center Punch (self tapping will not work, needs to be at least 3mm or larger.)
Metal files (not diamond coated)
Brass Caliper (optional)
Jeweler's Saw and 2/o blades (this will be provided to share as needed).
Tube cutting pliers to share
Rotary machine (Dremel, Foredom or Standard flex shaft) with hanger.
Necessary hand tools to complete project
This class will take place at the Art Center at Main Exhibit Gallery.
